A cable box that swallows the plug strip, the coiled up slack and the little forest of adapters, then closes over the top so all you see is a neat box. Why a cable tidy box works better in a living room than a tray

Does it get hot inside? That is exactly what the vents are for. Air moves through the side and base slots rather than sitting still around the plugs.

Can I put a router in it? Yes, it is a popular use. Just leave the aerials clear and do not shut a router in with no airflow.

What is the groove in the lid for? Standing your phone up while it charges, so the cable runs into the box and the phone sits at a readable angle on top.
