Where it works, and where it does not

This is a fabric lantern rather than a sealed garden light, so treat it like a paper shade that happens to charge itself. It is at its best somewhere covered: a porch, a balcony, under a gazebo or a parasol, inside a marquee, or in a conservatory or a bright window. Hung out in the open through a British autumn it will not last, and that is worth knowing before you buy rather than after.

Why nylon gives a softer light than glass or plastic

Fabric diffuses light across the whole surface, so the lantern glows evenly as a shape rather than showing a bright point where the LED sits. That is what makes a row of them along a covered porch or over a table look like proper event lighting instead of a line of garden spotlights.

Can I leave it out in the rain? No. It is not waterproof and it carries no weather rating. Hang it somewhere covered, or bring it in when rain is forecast, the same way you would a paper lantern.

Will it still charge under a porch? Yes, as long as it sees daylight. It needs light rather than direct sun, so a covered spot that stays bright through the day is fine. The darker the spot, the shorter the evening.

How long does it stay lit? It depends on how much light it has had that day. Through a British summer you will get a full evening out of it. In midwinter, expect a couple of hours, which is the honest trade for having no cable at all.

Does it come on by itself? Yes, the sensor triggers it at dusk. The manual switch is there for when you would rather it stayed off.

Can I use it indoors? Yes, and plenty of people do. It just needs to spend part of the day near a window to charge.
