Why a wooden pen pot outlasts the plastic one

A plastic pot is light, so it moves when you take a pen out, and every time it does it scuffs the desk a little. Solid wood has enough weight to stay where it is put, and the surface takes a knock without showing it the way moulded plastic does. Walnut in particular darkens very slightly over years rather than going yellow, which is the failure mode of cheap light woods and white plastic both.

Common Questions

How many pens does it hold? Comfortably a dozen, and more than that if you are happy to jam them. Beyond a dozen they stop being easy to pick out, and at that point a pot with drawers is the better answer.

Is the wood sealed? It has a light finish rather than a heavy lacquer, which is what keeps the grain looking like wood. Wipe a spill off rather than letting it sit, and do not stand it in water.

Will the colour match my other wooden things? Walnut is a mid to dark brown with visible grain, so it sits alongside oak or pine rather than matching them. No two woods ever quite do. The photos are the best guide.

Is it just for pens? It takes scissors, a ruler, a screwdriver, brushes. Anything long that currently lives in a drawer.
