Where do people actually put these?
Inside wardrobes and kitchen cupboards, along a hallway or a stairwell, under a bed, and on the landing so nobody has to find a switch at three in the morning. Anywhere you need light for about twenty seconds and then not at all.
Do I need to drill or wire anything in?

Will one of these light a whole room?
No, and they are not trying to. A sensor light covers one spot, a shelf, a step, the inside of a cupboard, and it does that job very well. If you want a room lit properly that belongs to the lamps, and the spotlight is the one here that throws a real beam.
What if I want the light on all the time rather than only when I walk past?
